ScaledCon – Taking a Games Convention Online

Recently I have been involved in organising a free online table top games convention called ScaleCon. This came about at very short notice due to Covid-19. We have created an entire convention with guests, games and a charity auction in less than three weeks to replace Conpulsion Edinburgh’s usual yearly table top games convention which will hopefully return next year.

My involvement has been largely around publicity, website creation and sourcing technical solutions to allow us to host a large number of attendees. We have settled on Discord for general communication and Webex for panels and talks. We also have a host of specialist solutions for gaming including Rolz, Steam, Tabletopia.com and BoardGameArena.com

Everyone is welcome to attend. Visit https://scaledevents.co.uk/scaledcon/ for more details. If you decide to attend I hope you have fun on the day. If you see this post after the event its still worth going to look if you like boardgames or roleplaying games as we are putting up a bunch of handy resources for playing games remotely while Covid-19 plays out.

We are also collecting for a local charity theĀ  Grassmarket Community Project. ScaledCon is free but if you would like to make any donation via https://www.justgiving.com/grassmarketcommunityproject it would be much appreciated.

Update 5th April 2020:

Well the convention seemed to go well, we got over 100 attendees and much fun was had by all. A full summary can be found at https://scaledevents.co.uk/2020/04/05/scaledcon-convention-thanks-and-summary/ . Of course because I love data science I had to run a quick feedback survey, the results can be found here https://scaledevents.co.uk/2020/04/05/scaledcon-feedback/ and it seems things were well received. We are going to run a smaller event monthly while the lockdown continues, visit https://scaledevents.co.uk/scaledcon/ if you would like to come along
